Call for papers: Building New Paradigms in Comparative Physiology and Biomechanics

Journal of Experimental Biology is pleased to welcome submissions for consideration in our upcoming Special Issue: Building New Paradigms in Comparative Physiology and Biomechanics.

We are looking to publish studies that identify novel, fundamental phenomena in comparative physiology and biomechanics through the review of the literature and where appropriate the collation, data-mining, and analyses of existing and emerging datasets. We are especially seeking papers that generate new questions and hypotheses or illuminate paradigm shifts in our understanding of physiological phenomena. Comparative studies that aim to integrate large-scale correlative analyses with mechanistic understanding of physiology and studies that incorporate meta-analyses of physiological data are welcomed.

The scope of this special issue will reflect the breadth of subject matter published in JEB, and align to the broad interests of our interdisciplinary community of authors and readers. We are particularly interested in studies that include datasets that span different taxa and that incorporate robust comparative and phylogenetic analyses. Big data generated from transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic approaches will be considered, provided that the information can be integrated across other levels of biological organisation.

Publication will be dependent on significantly advancing our knowledge and understanding of animal function.

For rapid feedback on the potential suitability of an article, prospective authors are encouraged to send a pre-submission enquiry to

Submissions should be in the form of a Research Article, Review or Commentary. Please refer to our author guidelines for information on preparing your manuscript for JEB, and submit your manuscript via our online submission system. Please highlight that your submission is to be considered for this special issue in your cover letter.

We are particularly interested in receiving submissions from early-career researchers.

The special issue will be published in early 2022 and will be widely promoted online and at key global conferences.

The deadline for submitting articles is Friday 30 July 2021.
