Hypersensitivity of the anterior median eye of the jumping spider Menemerus confusus, following illumination, was unaffected by the concentration of Na+ or K+, was depressed by increase of Ca2+ concentration, and was dependent upon the presence of Mg2+. Sensitivity of the dark-adapted eye was also inversely related to Ca2+ concentration, but to a lesser extent.
