ABSTRACT
In the urine from a pregnant woman there are to be found certain physiologically active factors, regarded by Zondek and Aschheim as an elaborated product of the anterior lobe of the pituitary, profoundly influencing the activity of the ovary of rat and mouse, and thus indirectly invoking oestrus. The effect of the injection of urine from a pregnant woman upon the immature female mouse is a maturation of the genital system.
We wrote to Professor Zondek concerning this matter and have received in reply a letter which states that ovulation does follow upon the injection of urine. “Die injektion von schwangeren Urine ruft bei der infantilen Maus Ovulation hervor. (Hypophysen vorderlappen Reaktion I.) Es ist sogar gelungen, durch Prolaninjektion eine Neureifung von Eiem bei trächtigen Mäusen am ; Eude der Schwangerschaft zu erreichen.”
