ABSTRACT
Two kinds of formed bodies are present in the urine of the crayfish: spheroids, which appear to be produced by the coelomosac cells and appear in all parts of the antennal gland except the bladder; and vesicles, which are produced by the cells of the labyrinth and are found only in the labyrinth.
Chemical analysis of the formed bodies show them to contain peptides and amino acids, especially in the more distal portions of the antennal gland. It is suggested that the spheroids also contain proteins, but that this material is inseparable from their structure.
The significance of the formed bodies in the excretion process of the crayfish is discussed.
