ABSTRACT
An hygrometer and an evaporimeter, capable of investigating atmospheric conditions over small areas close to the surface of a leaf, are described.
In the case of rapidly transpiring leaves in a slow air stream a humidity gradient has been detected up to a height of 1.2 cm.

Thia height is “critical” only in relation to the accuracy of measurements. In theory, the evaporimeter reading approaches a true measure only as the height approaches infinity.
