This paper deals with an attempt to demonstrate selective accumulation of ions by the use of a cell bounded by two dense collodion membranes, one of which was impermeable to anions and the other impermeable to cations. Such a cell would, if successful, constitute a system analogous to many living cells (Brooks, 1929).
