Cover Image
Cover: The image depicts a surface rendering of secretory granules containing newly synthesized insulin (spectrum color), the Golgi complex (magenta) and the nucleus (blue) from a pancreatic islet β-cell. Granules are color-coded based on distance from the Golgi. Original data were obtained from islets expressing the proinsulin reporter proCpepSNAP, which was pulse-labeled with SNAPtag substrate and chased for 2 h to monitor the maturation of insulin granules. Islet cells were immunostained for GM130 (Golgi) and counterstained with DAPI (nucleus). Images were collected as confocal z-stacks, deconvolved and rendered using Imaris (BitPlane) software. Summary: Formin Cdc12 actin cable formation is inhibited by increased ergosterol levels in fission yeast, resulting in defective cytokinetic ring assembly and division plane position.
Ca2+ entry via TRPC1 is essential for cellular differentiation and modulates secretion via the SNARE complex
Summary: TRPC1 modulates Ca2+ entry, which is essential in adipocyte differentiation and adiponectin secretion, through facilitating SNARE complex formation, thereby maintaining metabolic homeostasis.
