Summary: Non-centrosomal microtubules are nucleated at centrosomes and then released; here, we show that CAMSAP3 coordinates with dynein and katanin to mediate this release.

Highlighted Article: The nuclear α-catenin–β-catenin complex mediates DNA damage sensitivity in a WNT-dependent manner. α-Catenin recruitment to sites of DNA damage is dependent on β-catenin and nuclear actin.

Summary: The γ isoform of the formin FMNL1 localizes to podosomes and is required for efficient macrophage migration, independent of its FH2 actin-binding domain.

Highlighted Article: Accumulated unphosphorylated STAT1 decreases apoptosis of macrophages by interacting with STAT3 to repress expression of CD95 at the later stages of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.

Summary: Utrophin is a key component bridging rapsyn and AChRs to α-dystrobrevin and α-syntrophin in the AChR-rich domain, and we show that α-syntrophin and rapsyn turn over more rapidly than AChRs at the NMJ.

Highlighted Article: Cdc20-dependent activation of the APC/C is essential for chromosome segregation and exit from mitosis. We show that the PP2AB56 phosphatase is required for the assembly of APC/CCdc20.

Summary: Adhesion receptor integrin-α3 is involved in presynaptic differentiation, synaptic maintenance and nerve terminal anchorage at the neuromuscular synapse.

Highlighted Article: An unusual FACS-based screen using Dictyostelium identifies Mroh1 – a conserved protein with HEAT repeats – as a WASH and F-actin target that is important for constitutive exocytosis of lysosomes.

Summary: Identification of a novel structure related to the nucleoplasmic reticulum in polyploid and stressed cells. Active mRNA translation occurs in these structures, helping polyploid cells to maintain protein synthesis.

Highlighted Article: This article demonstrates that Centralspindlin is tethered to microtubule plus ends via an SxIP motif, and disruption of this motif causes defects in cytokinesis and cell–cell junctions.

Summary: There are compositional and structural differences in the nuclear pore complexes present in the functionally differentiated macronucleus and micronucleus within the single cytoplasm of ciliated protozoa.

Highlighted Article: Spermatid protein kinase TSSK6 is essential for fertility. Here, we show that TSSK6 is necessary for H2AX phosphorylation at Ser139 and histone-to-protamine transition during spermiogenesis, and link γH2AX to normal sperm development.
