C. elegans as a Disease Model

The nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans is one of the best-characterised multicellular organisms on Earth. Its significant degree of homology and defined cell lineage, genome and life cycle render this small animal ideal for modelling diseases associated with neuronal and metabolic dysfunction, ageing and host-pathogen interactions.
