Study of Jag1 protein expression by western blot. WT and TRα0/0 mice were treated or not with TH as indicated, and Jag1 expression was analysed in whole protein extracts from the intestinal mucosa. Actin was used as the loading control.

An anonymous post on PubPeer suggested that the last two lanes of the actin western blot in Fig. S8 of the supplementary material are much more similar than might be expected when mirrored.

The corresponding author, Michelina Plateroti, contacted the journal to supply more complete data and although the Ponceau-stained gel looked fine, the full western blot image for actin showed the mirrored actin lanes as in the published figure. While the authors were unable to explain this discrepancy fully, they concluded that they made an error during figure preparation. They were able to supply replicate data from the same experiment to support the conclusions in the paper.

Both Dr Plateroti and the journal referred the matter to Dr Patrick Mehlen, the Director of the Cancer Research Center of Lyon, where the work was carried out. Dr Mehlen agreed that a correction was the appropriate path. The corrected figure is shown here and the authors apologise for any inconvenience caused.
