ABSTRACT
Glücksmann (1951) has summarized the results of earlier investigations on cell degeneration processes during normal vertebrate development. To the few investigations on the degeneration in the urogenital region made before the publication of Glücksmann’s paper (1951) can be added Bengmark’s study (1958) on degeneration processes during the separation between the Wolffian duct and the ureteral anlage and Forsberg’s study (1961) on the mechanism of the division of the cloaca. Finally, Forsberg (1963) has given a description of those regions where degeneration can be seen during the development of the vaginal anlage in several species, including man.
